India-Israel Strengthens Fisheries and Aquaculture:
India and Israel are set to deepen their strategic and economic partnership in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, as Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh prepares for an official visit to Israel from January 13 to 15, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The visit highlights the growing importance of the blue economy in bilateral relations and aims to unlock new opportunities in sustainable fisheries, advanced aquaculture technologies, and food security.

Participation in Global Blue Food Security Summit
During the visit, Singh will participate in the Second Global Summit on Blue Food Security: “Sea the Future”, held at the invitation of Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Avi Dichter.
The summit will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and experts from across the globe to discuss challenges and solutions related to marine food systems, sustainability, and climate resilience.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, India’s participation reflects the shared commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture.
Bilateral Talks and Policy-Level Engagements
Apart from attending the summit, the Union Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his Israeli counterpart and ministers from other participating countries.
Key discussion areas are likely to include:
• Strengthening bilateral cooperation through policy alignment and institutional partnerships
• Promoting sustainable fisheries management
• Adoption of modern aquaculture technologies
• Enhancing research collaboration, innovation, and capacity building
• Facilitating trade and investment through improved market access and standards

The talks are also expected to advance the blue economy agenda, with a strong focus on sustainability, climate adaptation, and long-term food security.
Engagement With Israeli Startups and Innovation Hubs
As part of the programme, Singh is scheduled to meet CEOs of major Israeli companies and startups working in agriculture, fisheries, and aquaculture.
The visit will include tours of key institutions and innovation hubs, offering insights into Israel’s cutting-edge technological ecosystem, particularly in areas such as water-efficient aquaculture, digital monitoring, and sustainable marine practices.
Israel is globally recognized for its innovation-driven approach to agriculture and water management, making it a valuable partner for India’s expanding fisheries sector.

India’s Growing Fisheries and Export Strength
India’s fisheries sector has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. According to official data, seafood exports reached an all-time high of ₹62,408 crore in 2024–25, registering a 3.11 per cent increase over ₹60,523.89 crore in 2023–24. Export momentum has continued into the current fiscal year (FY26).
Fish production has also surged dramatically, rising from 95.79 lakh tonnes in FY2013–14 to 197.75 lakh tonnes in FY2024–25, marking a growth of over 106 per cent.
Strengthening a Strategic Partnership
The upcoming visit is expected to further reinforce the longstanding India–Israel partnership, positioning fisheries and aquaculture as key pillars of bilateral cooperation and sustainable economic growth.
