Sabalenka Battles Past Anisimova in Three-Set Thriller

Sabalenka overcame Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a fierce semifinal showdown that tested her resilience and power. The top seed, who finished runner-up last year, improved her head-to-head record to 8–5 over Rybakina — her upcoming opponent — and looks to end the season on a high note.

It’s going to be another powerful match,” Sabalenka said post-match. “Today was great preparation for Elena. I’ll leave everything on court in the last match of the season and fight for this beautiful trophy.”

After trading early breaks with Anisimova, Sabalenka took control late in the first set with a decisive break at 5–3, sealing it with trademark baseline power. However, Anisimova rebounded strongly, racing to a 4–0 lead in the second to level the contest.

In the final set, Sabalenka rediscovered her rhythm, firing aces and deep returns to regain momentum. A crucial break at 4–3 paved the way for victory, as she held firm under pressure to secure her place in the final.

She’s always pushing me to play my best tennis,” Sabalenka added. “We both deserved this final spot — it was an incredible fight.”

Rybakina Rallies to Overcome Pegula

Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina defeated Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to book her place in the final. Despite a sluggish start and shoulder discomfort, Rybakina fought back with precision serving and aggressive baseline play to overturn the deficit.

Pegula, last year’s finalist, had looked in control early, breaking in the first set to lead 4–2. But Rybakina tightened her game in the second, using her powerful serve to neutralize Pegula’s counterpunching and force a decider.

In the third set, Rybakina maintained composure and consistency, sealing victory after two hours of intense play. The win extends her unbeaten run in the tournament, setting up a blockbuster final against Sabalenka — the same rival she faced in the 2023 Australian Open final.

All Eyes on the Riyadh Showdown

With both players unbeaten in the WTA Finals 2025, Saturday’s final promises to be a battle of raw power and precision. For Sabalenka, it’s a chance to finally lift the Billie Jean King Trophy after last year’s heartbreak. For Rybakina, it’s an opportunity to close her season with a statement victory.
