Delhi Plans 3 New Flyovers to Ease Outer Ring Road Traffic | ₹10 Crore Feasibility Study Begins

Delhi Plans 3 New Flyovers

In a major push to ease chronic traffic congestion in West and Northwest Delhi, the city government’s Public Works Department (PWD) is preparing to launch feasibility studies for three new flyovers along the Outer Ring Road, with a total estimated cost exceeding ₹10 crore. Officials said these projects form part of Delhi’s broader decongestion master plan aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time across key arterial routes.

Delhi Plans Three New Flyovers to Decongest Outer Ring Road: ₹10 Crore Study Approved

Flyover 1: Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri via UER-II Link

The first and most significant proposed flyover will connect Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri, linking it directly to the newly inaugurated Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) — a major corridor expected to divert heavy traffic from the Outer Ring Road.

According to PWD officials quoted by PTI, the 10-kilometre stretch will cover several busy junctions including Sector-22 Rohini (Begumpur), Y-Block Mangolpuri, and Pathar Market.
The feasibility study, estimated to cost ₹3.4 crore, will take around six months, after which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared to finalise the design and budget.

Flyover 2: Keshopur Depot to Haiderpur

The second proposed corridor runs along the Supplementary Drain, beginning near Keshopur Depot and extending up to Haiderpur on the Outer Ring Road. Spanning nearly 17.5 km, it is the longest of the three proposed flyovers.

The ₹5.6 crore feasibility study will include a detailed survey of the corridor — covering building mapping, encroachments, trees, signage, and road features.
The tender document specifies that the consultant will conduct a cost-benefit analysis, assessing economic, environmental, and social impacts. The study will also evaluate the possibility of tree transplantation instead of felling wherever feasible.

Flyover 3: Sagarpur–Mayapuri Route

The third project, connecting Sagarpur to Mayapuri Chowk, spans 4.3 km and faces multiple logistical challenges. The alignment passes close to the Tihar Jail boundary wall and under a high-tension power line, both of which may require design alterations.

Officials noted that approximately 300 trees are located along the proposed alignment, and the Right of Way (ROW) varies due to encroachments.
The ₹1.3 crore feasibility study for this stretch is also expected to conclude within six months, paving the way for detailed construction planning.

What’s Next?

Once the feasibility reports are completed, the PWD will proceed with Detailed Project Reports and begin design and construction phases. The three new flyovers, when completed, are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion along Delhi’s Outer Ring Road and improve connectivity with UER-II and surrounding districts.

Officials said the projects align with Delhi’s vision of “smoother, faster, and safer travel” across its key road corridors.
