The Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of Mandi and Kullu districts before holding a high-level review meeting in Kangra. He acknowledged the scale of devastation and assured that the Centre would extend all possible support to Himachal Pradesh during this crisis.

According to official figures, the state has suffered losses worth over ₹4,500 crore, with 370 people dead and 41 still missing since the floods began. The Public Works Department has taken the biggest hit, as roads and bridges were severely damaged, while 136 landslides, 95 flash floods, and 45 cloudbursts have been reported so far.

The ₹1,500 crore aid will be an advance release of the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. PM Modi also outlined a multi-dimensional rehabilitation plan that includes:

  • Rebuilding homes under PM Awas Yojana, with geo-tagging for faster assessment.
  • Restoration of schools through the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan to ensure uninterrupted education.

Centre & State to Work Together

PM Modi stressed that the Union government will work closely with the Himachal Pradesh government to ensure swift restoration of infrastructure and livelihoods. He also said that additional financial assistance would be considered once the inter-ministerial teams submit a detailed damage assessment report.

The Prime Minister added that rehabilitation efforts would focus not just on relief, but also on long-term resilience, with an emphasis on rebuilding stronger infrastructure and supporting agriculture-dependent families.

Human Cost of the Disaster

The state has witnessed unprecedented destruction this monsoon season. Entire stretches of highways have been washed away, villages cut off, and schools destroyed. While immediate relief is being rushed, officials warn that full recovery may take months, if not years.
