In a significant development in India-China relations, Beijing has assured New Delhi that it will resume the supply of critical fertilizers, rare earth minerals, and tunnel boring machines (TBMs), signalling a positive step towards the normalisation of bilateral ties.

During a meeting in Beijing last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised concerns over the disrupted supply of urea, NPK, DAP, and rare earth minerals, along with TBMs essential for India’s infrastructure projects. On Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed to Jaishankar that China is ready to restart these crucial exports.
Interestingly, discussions on boundary disputes were kept off the table, as they are set to be taken up by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during the Special Representative Dialogue today.
Wang Yi is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this evening, underlining the importance of the renewed diplomatic engagement.
While the talks were cordial, a strong undercurrent of US foreign policy under President Donald Trump influenced the discussions. Both India and China agreed that the prevailing Washington policies could impact them, making it vital for the two Asian powers to maintain closer dialogue.

Jaishankar reiterated India’s unchanged stance on Taiwan, emphasizing that India maintains only economic and cultural engagement with Taipei, in line with global diplomatic practices.
This assurance from Beijing comes at a critical time, as India faces rising demand for fertilizers and technology needed for agriculture and infrastructure growth.
