Mumbai continued to reel under heavy rains for the third consecutive day on Monday, forcing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to declare a holiday for all schools and colleges. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city and adjoining districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with the possibility of extremely heavy showers in isolated areas.

177 mm of rain in 6–8 hours: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said Mumbai received intense rainfall in a short span on Monday, urging citizens to take precautions.
IMD red alert: Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, with isolated places likely to receive extremely heavy showers through Tuesday. Sindhudurg remains on orange alert.
Waterlogging hotspots: Low-lying areas such as Andheri Subway, Lokhandwala Complex, and King Circle witnessed severe waterlogging, hampering vehicular movement.
Train delays: Suburban trains, Mumbai’s lifeline, were delayed by 15–20 minutes, though BEST bus services remained unaffected.

Situation on the Ground
Heavy showers since Saturday have left parts of Mumbai submerged. Motorists reported poor visibility and traffic snarls, while pedestrians were seen wading through waist-deep water in certain stretches. The IMD has also warned of gusty winds and high tides in the coming 24 hours.
The civic administration has appealed to residents to stay indoors unless necessary, avoid flooded areas, and keep emergency numbers handy.
