The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday formally approved India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during its Special General Meeting (SGM). Ahmedabad has been proposed as the host city, with final bid documents to be submitted by August 31.

With Canada withdrawing from the race, India’s chances of securing the hosting rights have improved significantly.

A delegation from Commonwealth Sport, led by Director of Games Darren Hall, recently visited Ahmedabad to inspect sporting venues and hold discussions with Gujarat government officials. A larger inspection team is expected later this month for a more detailed evaluation.
The final host city will be confirmed at the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport in Glasgow in the last week of November.
If successful, this will be the second time India hosts the Commonwealth Games, the first being New Delhi 2010.
