A Meghalaya villager sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a nine-member gang of suspected Bangladeshi nationals who allegedly crossed the international border into India. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at Rongdangai village in South West Khasi Hills district.

According to police, the armed assailants forcibly entered a local shop where the victim, identified as Balsrang A Marak, was sleeping. At gunpoint, they demanded the contact number of the shop owner. The gang later abducted Marak, but he managed to escape and rush to his home.
However, the attackers pursued him, firing several rounds when they found the door of his house locked. Once his family opened the door, the intruders stormed inside, escalating the confrontation.
At around 2:15 a.m., another villager alerted the police about armed miscreants trespassing on his property. Police teams arrived promptly, but the attackers fled the scene.
Later in the day, residents of Khonjoy village apprehended one of the suspects. Acting on further information, police arrested three more members of the gang. A manhunt is underway to capture the remaining five suspects.
Authorities have intensified border surveillance in the South West Khasi Hills region to prevent similar incursions.
