Heavy rain battered Hyderabad on Thursday evening, causing severe waterlogging and massive traffic jams across several parts of the city.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Khazaguda Sports Complex in Gachibowli recorded 123.5 mm of rainfall, followed by 111.3 mm at Srinagar Colony between 8:30 AM and 8:00 PM. In several areas, including Lakdi-ka-pul, Dilsukhnagar, Raj Bhavan Road, Madhapur, and Gachibowli, traffic crawled at a snail’s pace. News footage showed a shocking incident where a two-wheeler rider was swept away by rainwater at Srinagar Colony.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and traffic police, worked to drain the flooded roads.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, currently in Delhi, directed officials to stay on high alert and monitor the situation continuously. He held discussions with Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Jitender, urging deployment of disaster response teams, resolving traffic bottlenecks, restoring power supply, and taking preventive measures in low-lying areas.
