NEW DELHI| August 4, 2025 | SKY LINK TIMES– In a major step towards strengthening the electoral roll system, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a significant increase in the remuneration of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors. For the first time, honorariums have also been sanctioned for Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).

This revision comes after a long gap since the last change in 2015, reflecting the Commission’s strong recognition of the tireless efforts made by ground-level workers in ensuring transparent and accurate electoral rolls.

💰 New Remuneration Structure (Effective from 2025)
Designation | Previous (2015) | Revised (2025) |
---|---|---|
Booth Level Officer (BLO) | ₹6,000 | ₹12,000 |
Incentive for Roll Revision | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
BLO Supervisor | ₹12,000 | ₹18,000 |
Assistant ERO (AERO) | Nil | ₹25,000 |
Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) | Nil | ₹30,000 |
Additionally, BLOs involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process beginning in Bihar will receive a special incentive of ₹6,000.
Why This Matters
Accurate and up-to-date electoral rolls are the foundation of free and fair elections. The BLOs and supervisory staff serve as the bridge between voters and the election machinery. By doubling their remuneration, the ECI ensures that the efforts of field-level electoral staff are adequately recognized and supported.
This move will encourage more effective voter registration, smoother roll revisions, and better facilitation of voter services, especially ahead of the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
