37 Maoists Surrender in Dantewada:
In one of the largest collective surrenders in recent years, 37 Maoist cadres—including 12 women—laid down arms in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Sunday, reinforcing hopes of long-term peace in the conflict-hit Bastar region. According to officials, 27 of the surrendered cadres carried rewards totaling ₹65 lakh, marking a major setback for Maoist operations.

The surrender took place under the Lon Varratu and Poona Margem (Revival through Rehabilitation) initiatives, designed to reintegrate Maoists who wish to return to mainstream society.

Faith in Rehabilitation Policy Drives Surrender
Authorities stated that all 37 cadres expressed complete confidence in the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation framework, choosing to abandon violence after years spent in forest hideouts.
The programme, guided by senior officers of the Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF, has gained momentum among cadres exhausted by prolonged conflict and diminishing local support.
“The Poona Margem and Lon Varratu initiatives are emerging as transformative pathways towards lasting peace, dignity and overall progress in Bastar,” said Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam.

More Than 508 Maoists Surrendered in 20 Months
Police noted that over 508 Maoists—including 165 with bounties—have surrendered in Dantewada in the last 20 months, signaling a major shift within the organisation’s internal structure.
> “Our persistent efforts and the support of locals have paid off. Villagers are rejecting Maoist pressure,” said SP Gaurav Rai, noting that cadres admitted it had become difficult to survive in the jungle and evade security operations.
Officials believe Sunday’s surrender marks another decisive step toward a violence-free Bastar.
