UP Extends Cashless Treatment to 15 Lakh Teachers:
In a major welfare initiative for the education sector, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday approved cashless medical treatment for around 15 lakh teachers, non-teaching staff and their dependent family members. The facility will be available at both government and empanelled private hospitals across the state.

The decision, taken by the Yogi Adityanath-led Cabinet, significantly expands the ambit of the state’s cashless mediclaim coverage for the teaching fraternity.

Decision Announced Earlier, Cabinet Nod Given Now
Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that 32 proposals were placed before the Cabinet, of which 30 were approved.
The cashless medical facility was earlier announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Teachers’ Day last year, and has now received formal Cabinet approval.
Who Will Benefit Under the Scheme
The scheme will benefit teachers, honorary teachers, non-teaching staff and their dependents working in:
• Government-aided and self-financed school
• Institutions under the Basic Education Council
• Schools recognised by the Secondary Education Council
Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi stated that over 2.97 lakh beneficiaries fall under this category, with an estimated expenditure of ₹89.25 crore.
Basic Education Sector Coverage
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh informed that more than 11.95 lakh teachers and staff associated with the Basic Education Council will benefit from the initiative.
The beneficiaries include:
• Teachers and non-teaching staff
• Shiksha Mitras and special educators
• Instructors in aided and self-financed schools
• Wardens and full-time or part-time teachers of
• Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas
• Cooks engaged under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana, along with their dependents
The annual financial outlay for this component is estimated at ₹358.61 crore, with an average annual insurance premium of around ₹3,000 per employee.

Hospitals, Treatment Rates and Implementation
The cashless treatment facility will be available under the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS).
Treatment rates will be aligned with those prescribed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and norms set by the National Health Authority.
Teachers working in self-financed and recognised institutions will be eligible after verification. For this purpose, district-level committees will be constituted under the chairmanship of the District Inspector of Schools and the Basic Education Officer.
Strengthening Welfare Measures in Education
The move is expected to provide financial security and quality healthcare access to lakhs of educators and support staff, reinforcing the state government’s focus on employee welfare in the education sector.
