Tripura Budget 2026-27: Rs34,212 Cr Plan, No New Taxes:

The Tripura government on Monday presented a ₹34,212.31 crore deficit budget for the financial year 2026–27, focusing on infrastructure development, welfare programmes and economic growth, while announcing no new taxes for citizens.

Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy tabled the budget in the state Assembly, stating that it reflects a 5.52 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year. The budget projects a deficit of ₹240 crore.

Speaking after presenting the budget, the minister said the financial plan has been prepared by carefully considering all major sectors of the state’s economy.

“The total budget outlay is ₹34,212.31 crore, with a deficit of ₹240 crore,” Singha Roy said.

Focus on Infrastructure and Economic Growth

A key highlight of the budget is the increase in capital expenditure, which has been set at ₹8,945.92 crore, marking a 13.19 percent rise from the previous year.
According to the finance minister, the higher capital expenditure is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and accelerating economic growth in the state.
He said the government has designed the budget to promote long-term development, economic self-sufficiency and improved public services.

“We have prepared this budget focusing on infrastructure development and the overall welfare of the people. Increased capital expenditure will strengthen the economy,” Singha Roy said.

Major Sector-Wise Allocations

The budget includes increased allocations for several key sectors such as healthcare, rural development, agriculture and education.

Health Sector

The health sector has been allocated ₹2,441.50 crore, which represents a 25.29 percent increase compared to last year’s budget.

Rural Development

Rural development received ₹4,094 crore, reflecting a 17.50 percent increase, aimed at improving rural infrastructure, employment and livelihoods.

Agriculture

The agriculture sector has been allotted ₹1,985.61 crore, marking a 5.31 percent increase to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity.

Education

Education remains one of the largest spending sectors, receiving ₹6,439.56 crore, which is 4.43 percent higher than the previous allocation.

Increased Funding for TTAADC

The budget also includes increased funding for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which will receive ₹918 crore this year, up from ₹860.28 crore in the previous budget.
The allocation is expected to support development initiatives in tribal areas across the state.

Alignment With National Development Vision

Finance Minister Singha Roy stated that the state’s financial roadmap aligns with the national development vision outlined in the Union Budget presented by Nirmala Sitharaman.
He noted that the state government aims to contribute to the broader national goal of achieving **Viksit Bharat 2047 while following its own “Viksit Tripura” development roadmap.

No Additional Tax Burden on Citizens

The finance minister emphasised that no new taxes have been imposed on the public, highlighting that the state’s financial growth is supported by central assistance and economic reforms.
He added that the Northeast region continues to receive strong priority under centrally sponsored schemes, which is helping drive development in Tripura.
The 2026–27 budget is expected to play a key role in strengthening infrastructure, improving social sectors and boosting economic activity across the state.
