Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday began his one-day visit to Assam, landing at the Chabua airfield in Dibrugarh district. The visit includes a series of high-profile inaugurations and public engagements aimed at strengthening connectivity, education, and sustainable mobility in the state.

Emergency Landing Facility Inaugurated in Moran

The Prime Minister inaugurated the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran bypass in Dibrugarh district, describing it as the first such facility in the Northeast region.
According to the Prime Minister, the ELF will play a crucial role in emergency response situations by enabling the swift deployment of rescue and relief operations during challenging circumstances. In a post on X, he termed the inauguration a moment of “immense joy” for the Northeast.

Brahmaputra Bridge to Ease Traffic in Guwahati

At around 1 p.m., the Prime Minister inaugurated the much-awaited bridge over the Brahmaputra River, connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati.
The bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, cut travel time, and enhance connectivity between the northern and southern banks of the river. Officials believe the infrastructure will boost trade, improve daily commuting, and support the region’s economic growth.

IIM Guwahati Temporary Campus Inaugurated

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management Guwahati at Bongora.
The establishment of IIM Guwahati is seen as a major milestone for higher education in the Northeast. The institute is expected to nurture management talent, attract students from across the country, and strengthen Assam’s position as an emerging education hub.

100 Electric Buses Flagged Off

In a push toward sustainable urban mobility, the Prime Minister flagged off 100 additional electric buses for Guwahati. The induction of e-buses is aimed at strengthening public transport while reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in the city.
The move aligns with broader efforts to modernize urban transport infrastructure while addressing environmental concerns.

Political Outreach Ahead of Elections

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address BJP workers in Guwahati. Referring to the mandate given to the BJP-NDA alliance a decade ago, he stated that the government in Assam has worked to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
Expressing confidence ahead of upcoming elections, the Prime Minister said he was hopeful that the people of Assam would once again support the BJP-NDA alliance.
