The move adds significant international experience to the Titans’ coaching setup as the 2022 IPL champions aim to strengthen their squad and rebuild momentum for the upcoming season.

Hayden’s Experience to Strengthen Titans’ Batting Unit

Hayden, widely regarded as one of the most dominant openers of his era, brings extensive knowledge of modern white-ball batting. During his illustrious career with Australia national cricket team, he played 273 matches across formats and scored more than 15,000 international runs.

The former opener was a key member of Australia’s World Cup-winning squads in 2003 and 2007 and played a crucial role in shaping aggressive powerplay strategies that define modern T20 cricket.

With this appointment, Gujarat Titans hope Hayden’s technical insights and aggressive mindset will help develop both established players and emerging talent within the squad.

Franchise Leadership Welcomes Appointment

Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki described Hayden’s arrival as an important step in the franchise’s long-term cricket strategy.

“Matthew’s appointment comes at a pivotal phase in our journey. As a franchise committed to excellence and long-term success, we are constantly focused on strengthening our cricketing ecosystem,” Solanki said.

He added that Hayden’s experience at the highest level and his ability to mentor young players will be instrumental in shaping the Titans’ batting approach in the coming seasons.

Hayden Excited About New Challenge

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the franchise, Hayden emphasized the importance of setting high batting standards.

“Good batting applies pressure. Great batting owns the game. That’s the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans,” the former Australian star said.
Hayden’s coaching philosophy is expected to focus on aggressive yet disciplined batting — a style that defined his own playing career.

Hayden’s IPL Legacy with Chennai Super Kings

Hayden also enjoyed a memorable playing career in the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings between 2008 and 2010.

Across 32 matches, he scored 1,107 runs at an average of 36.90 and an impressive strike rate of 137.52. His most remarkable season came in 2009 when he won the Orange Cap after scoring 572 runs.

The Australian powerhouse was also known for his use of the distinctive “Mongoose” bat in the 2010 season, including a blistering 93-run innings off 43 balls against Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils).

Hayden capped his IPL playing career by helping Chennai Super Kings win their first IPL title in 2010.

Big Season Ahead for Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans, who won the IPL title in their debut season in 2022, are looking to return to championship contention in 2026. The addition of Hayden to the coaching staff signals the franchise’s intent to strengthen its batting department and build a more aggressive approach at the crease.
With one of the game’s most respected former openers now guiding the batting unit, Titans fans will hope the team can rediscover its dominant form in the upcoming IPL season.
