Centre Releases Rs 275 Crore for Jharkhand PRIs:
The Union government has released over ₹275 crore to strengthen rural governance in Jharkhand under the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission for the financial year 2025–26. The funds aim to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and enhance basic civic services across the state.

According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the Centre has approved the release of ₹275.1253 crore as the second instalment of Untied Grants for FY 2024–25, benefiting all eligible rural local bodies in Jharkhand.

Funds to Benefit 24 District Panchayats and Over 4,000 Gram Panchayats
The released amount will cover:
• 24 District Panchayats (DPs)
• 253 Block Panchayats (BPs)
• 4,342 Gram Panchayats (GPs)
The grants are part of the 15th Finance Commission (XV-FC) recommendations, which allocate funds to states annually in two instalments to strengthen grassroots democracy and local governance.
How the Untied and Tied Grants Will Be Used
• Untied Grants
Untied Grants can be utilised by local bodies to address location-specific needs. However, the funds cannot be used for salaries or other establishment expenses. This gives Panchayats flexibility to prioritise urgent development projects based on local requirements.Tied Grants are earmarked for essential civic services such as:
Sanitation and maintenance of Open Defecation-Free (ODF) status
Drinking water supply
Rainwater harvesting
Water recycling initiatives
These allocations are designed to improve public health standards and strengthen rural infrastructure.

Similar Releases to Other States
Earlier this month, the Centre also released over ₹137 crore to rural local bodies in Goa, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Uttarakhand for FY 2025–26.
Additionally, more than ₹3,324 crore was released to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal under the second instalment of XV-FC untied grants.
Bihar received ₹802.40 crore benefiting 38 district, 533 block and 8,053 gram panchayats.
Uttar Pradesh was allocated ₹1,559.40 crore covering 75 district, 826 block and 57,694 gram panchayats.
West Bengal received ₹680.86 crore for 21 district, 335 block and 3,225 gram panchayats.
These allocations underline the Centre’s broader strategy to strengthen decentralised governance and improve rural service delivery across states.
