Olympic Qualification Adds Major Significance
Confirming the development, the ASC said the event will play a crucial role in Asia’s Olympic qualification pathway.
“The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2027 will be organised by the National Rifle Association of India from 01 to 10 December 2027 at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in New Delhi, India,” the ASC said in a statement.
“The championship will hold added significance as eight Asian continental quota places for the LA Olympic Games 2028 will be distributed during the event,” it added.
Olympic quota places are typically allocated to National Olympic Committees (NOCs), except when secured through Olympic Rankings or universality places, where quotas are awarded directly to athletes.
India’s Strong Track Record in Olympic Shooting
India has emerged as one of Asia’s strongest shooting nations in recent years. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, India secured the maximum possible 16 quotas—eight each in rifle and pistol disciplines—through Olympic qualification events.
The country sent a record 21 shooters to Paris, a sharp rise from the 15 shooters who represented India at the Tokyo Olympics. Indian shooters returned from Paris with three bronze medals, underlining the sport’s growing depth and competitiveness.

Focus on Home Advantage
India’s hosting of the 2027 championship comes amid a packed international shooting calendar at home. New Delhi is currently hosting the Asian Shooting Championship Rifle/Pistol from February 2 to 14, where the hosts have fielded the largest contingent with 118 athletes.
Out of a total 311 shooters, Indian athletes account for over one-third of the entries. Kazakhstan has the second-largest team with 35 athletes, followed by Iran with 28.
Strong Asian Competition Expected
The championship has attracted shooters from 20 countries, with 564 starts across the competition. Traditional regional powerhouses such as South Korea, Iran, and Japan have fielded strong squads, while competitors from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong are also expected to perform well.
With world-class facilities at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges and strong administrative backing, India’s hosting of the 2027 championship is expected to further reinforce its position as a global shooting hub.
