Semicon India 2025: In a historic milestone for India’s semiconductor industry, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday presented the country’s first made-in-India 32-bit processor chip to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inaugural ceremony of Semicon India 2025.

The achievement marks a new chapter in the India Semiconductor Mission, reflecting rapid progress in chip manufacturing and positioning India as a global hub for electronics.

Five Semiconductor Units Underway

Highlighting ongoing developments, Vaishnaw said:

  • Construction of five semiconductor units is progressing swiftly.
  • The pilot line of one unit is complete, with production beginning soon.
  • Two more units are expected to start production in the coming months.
  • Design work for five additional units is already advancing.

“Today, we presented the first made-in-India chip to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Ecosystem partners for chip manufacturing are all here,” the minister said.

Semicon India: A Stable Hub in a Turbulent World

Emphasizing India’s role in the global landscape, Vaishnaw noted:

“In these turbulent times, India stands as a lighthouse of stability and growth. You should come to India because our policies are stable.”

He pointed out that global uncertainties have increased investor interest in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Rapid Growth in Electronics Manufacturing

Vaishnaw also showcased India’s growing demand for semiconductors:

  • Electronics production has grown six times in the last decade.
  • Electronics exports have grown eight times in the same period.
  • Semiconductor demand is rising each quarter, driven by the Make in India push across sectors like automobiles, defense, consumer electronics, and strategic industries.

A Professional and Transparent Mission

Reflecting on the journey since the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Modi’s vision and industry partnerships.

“In just three and a half years, the world is looking at India with confidence. We have managed the mission in a professional and transparent way, backed by rigorous analysis from industry experts,” he said.

Global Call to Investors

The minister invited international investors to be part of India’s semiconductor growth story, calling it a “foundational industry” that will power the future of technology.

With the first indigenous chip unveiled and multiple units nearing production, Semicon India 2025 marks a turning point in India’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
