MUMBAI । AUGUST 25,2025। SKY LINK TIMES
Just weeks before the Asia Cup 2025, the Indian cricket team has been hit by a sponsorship setback. Fantasy sports giant Dream11 has officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it will no longer be able to continue its partnership with Team India, following the recent ban on real money-based online games.

According to officials, Dream11 representatives met BCCI CEO Hemang Amin earlier this week and confirmed their decision to withdraw from the sponsorship deal. The move comes after Parliament passed a new law declaring real money-based online gaming illegal in India.
Sponsorship Exit Clause Invoked
Dream11’s exit was facilitated by a clause in the sponsorship agreement, which clearly states that if a sponsor’s core business is directly impacted by a new government regulation, the company would not be liable to make further payments to the cricket board.
A senior BCCI official explained, “Dream11 visited the BCCI office and informed CEO Hemang Amin that they won’t be able to continue. As a result, they won’t be the team’s sponsors for the Asia Cup. The BCCI will float a new tender soon.”
With the Asia Cup set to begin in Dubai in less than two weeks, the BCCI now faces the challenge of quickly finding a new sponsor for Team India’s jersey and promotional rights.

BCCI on the Hunt for Replacement
Industry experts believe that the sudden pullout could create short-term financial and branding gaps, but given the immense value of Indian cricket, major companies from sectors like fintech, telecom, and consumer goods are expected to show interest.
The BCCI has already begun the process of inviting fresh bids for the sponsorship slot, ensuring that Team India has a new sponsor ahead of the high-profile Asia Cup campaign.
Dream11 Maintains Silence
While the news has stirred discussions in both sports and business circles, Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, has chosen not to comment on the development. Pooja Sabharwal, Vice President (Communications) at Dream Sports, declined to issue a statement.
Industry insiders suggest that the company’s priority now will be to re-evaluate its strategy in light of the sweeping ban, which has affected several online gaming platforms across India.
Impact on Sports Sponsorship in India
This sudden exit underlines how regulatory changes can have ripple effects across the sports sponsorship ecosystem. Dream11 had been a visible brand in Indian cricket for years, and its withdrawal signals a shift in the dynamics of how sporting bodies will approach sponsorship agreements in the future.
Despite the disruption, experts remain confident that the BCCI will be able to secure a new partner swiftly, given the global appeal and commercial strength of Indian cricket.
