In a major push towards social welfare, the Tripura government has rolled out a series of initiatives aimed at supporting weaker sections of society, including persons with disabilities, women, and poor families. Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury shared the details at a press briefing held at the state secretariat.
The minister said the government’s priority is to ensure that economically weaker families live with dignity and get direct benefits from welfare schemes.

Divyangjan Allowance Increased
One of the most significant decisions is the increase in monthly allowance for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities). The allowance has been raised from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. This benefit will be provided to individuals with more than 60% disability, and a valid certificate will be required for availing it.
Choudhary said this move will bring relief to thousands of Divyangjan in the state, helping them improve their living standards and reducing financial dependency.

Boost to Child and Women Welfare
The state cabinet has also approved the appointment of four Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). Recruitment will be carried out through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).
According to the minister, this step will ensure more effective implementation of child and women-centric schemes, strengthening the overall welfare framework.
Launch of Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana
To ease the burden of poor families during marriage ceremonies, the government has launched the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. Under this scheme, daughters of Antyodaya families will receive ₹50,000 as financial assistance at the time of their marriage.
“The aim is to reduce the financial stress of economically weaker households and provide dignity to daughters during their wedding,” Choudhary said.
Funeral Assistance Doubled for Antyodaya Families
In another compassionate step, the government has revised the Chief Minister Antyodaya Shraddhanjali Yojana. Earlier, Antyodaya families received only ₹2,000 to conduct the last rites of a deceased member. Now, the assistance amount has been raised to ₹10,000.
The minister stressed that this initiative would help families perform last rites respectfully without financial hardship.
Government’s Focus on Inclusive Growth
These measures reflect the Tripura government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social equity. By increasing allowances, offering marriage aid, and enhancing funeral support, the state aims to provide a stronger social security net for its underprivileged citizens.
The government wants every family, regardless of their financial background, to live with dignity with these steps
